survive.

so yesterday for work, one of the new interns and i accompanied one of our media reps on a quick interview for eyewitness news, on the 'celebration of life' event at jefferson's kimmel cancer center. we had set up a patient who was a cancer survivor - a 43 year old woman who had had a brain tumor/brain cancer, i think along a similar line of what ted kennedy has. she showed up a little late, we had been worried, but when she and her husband got there and were such amazing people it was just incredible. she was 38 when she was diagnosed - no history of it whatsoever in her family, no problems ever before for her. her children are now 10 and 14, meaning they were way young at the time of the actual diagnosis. she was tall and thin with pretty, well styled hair (which is interesting, because for her type of chemo you only lose hair around your surgery scar line, not all of it) she was so nervous about being on camera, since her memory is not what it used to be and she hasnt even worked in years, but once she got on camera she looked so good that people kept stopping and staring, thinking she was a reporter or someone famous. she explained how initially she'd been given a few months or a year to live, different diagnoses from different doctors, and how it had now been 5 years and there were currently no signs of cancer. she was so incredibly strong and well spoken, even though nervous. it was for last night's 6 o'clock news, and was probably turned into like an 8 second clip, but it was really incredible to actually listen to what she had to say. i think she was also going to get up and speak at the event, i should have stayed, but i felt a little small being surrounded by cancer survivors.

also this tiny mean-looking asian woman like, kept trying to lurk her way into the shot, and it was my job to glare at her to make her leave. i am good at such things.

ooh i just got a link to the clip! they shortened it a ton, but its really positive and good. also, from my job standpoint, very successful.
